Culture Amp is an essential tool - I wouldn't be able to do my job as effectively without it.

Pros

I think the UX/ UI is good, and easy enough to use, but also there's so much under the hood so that it's also a really robust tool. The product improvements have actually been improvements, and I'm excited whenever there's an update. The support team is also fantastic - I've never had a poor experience with the support team, and they are really great ambassadors for the company.

The Academy is the secret sauce, in my opinion - in addition to support articles for operations and administering the tool, all of the research and literature around engagement and feedback, written by I/O Psychology experts has helped me simultaneously learn more about best practices, while also providing backup to the methodology when I'm presenting findings to senior stakeholders.

Also - everything else Culture Amp does is great: Slack community, meetups, newsletter, etc. that I think they're building really great public culture and brand so... I want to like what they're doing software-wise. I'm well primed to like the tool.

Cons

Sometimes I wish the admin functionality was a little bit more robust - i.e. our organization structure changes a little bit year-over-year, but in order to map departments to previous years, it's a manual thing that the support team has to do. Or with the new inspiration engine, if it's customizable to the organization, I think it'd be neat to have a big library of actions, and be able to see which questions/ factors they're tied to, so that when you're writing new ones or building that out, you don't have to do it on the individual survey level. But that's a new part of the product, so maybe it'll get there later.

Worth the money!

Pros

I love that Culture Amp just makes things so simple for the People team now. They have survey templates readily available so we don't even have to design the surveys anymore. It's very user friendly for employees to take the survey and the reporting is the best part. It really protects anonymity while allowing you to take targeted action.

Cons

While the Performance features have many of the things you would expect in an OKR software, it's not as strong as their survey module yet. For example, there are opportunities to improve in the features for adding and tracking OKR progress. This is a newer feature for them though so I am hopeful to see where they will be at in a few years from now.

Culture Amp is great with people sciences, but the tool itself is terrible

Not helpful with more strategic initiatives.

Pros

Not good for large scale and high growth organizations. Their integration with Rippling is a joke and leads to terrible data and duplicative profiles. Very buggy -- when you run performance cycles the UX is different for self reflection vs performance. It means you have to manually update and edit everything. Also, they don't have on demand customer service -- just the chat bot, so if you need anything more complex.. like talent grids or ways to review calibration modules, you have to contact your CS team and in our experience their solutions are super limited. Mostly they tell you to just download the CSV and then manually create reporting or detailed info outside of the system. Not great.

Cons

UX is terrible -- it is not user friendly at all.

First time using, amazing so far

Overall the tool has been amazing from a user's perspective. I'm excited to continue to use especially now that our organization is asking for our opinions on returning to work in the office.

Pros

Culture amp is a leader in its space when it comes to employee engagement and I can see why! At this moment our organization is only using culture amp for employee engagement. So far I've noticed that (1) it's easy to get out to your employees (2) the tool is very easy to use (3) it's very appealing and looks really nice (4) Great customer support (5) easy to use for both HR managers and users.

Cons

I've heard from the HR team that at times it can be difficult to manage the system from the admin side, however, from a user's perspective - the tool has been amazing.

Response from Culture Amp

Delivering insightful feedback with Culture Amp.

We've been having a challenge tracking the employee goals and progress, and also updating them respectively which affected their overall evaluation. With Culture Amp, it is now much easier to track the employee performance and give credit where due. It has enabled us to gain valuable insights into employees' experiences, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions to enhance their company culture and overall performance and productivity. Overall, Culture Amp is an Excellent and easy to integrate software for any organization with intent of improving their employees performances.

Pros

This is one of the most user friendly software that integrates top quality analytics to gain insights onto the employee performances while ensuring that the user interface is easy to use and is available to employees at all levels in the organization.

Cons

I feel the 1-on-1s feature should be upgraded in that, it should be able to send an email of responses whenever a direct report or manager updates the conversation or shares a reply. Other than that, Culture Amp is the best.

Not built to scale with you

It is apparent that Culture Amp is not able to deliver the necessary workflows, tooling, and reporting to align with the requirements of a business of any large scale. Despite our efforts to raise concerns, and the limited resolutions to our challenges, it feels as though the only true solutions we have been offered is to "wait" for future changes or to compromise our performance initiatives to fit what is available. What we need today, is for Culture Amp to be the customer-centric partner we first signed up with. The partner who understands their market fit and who develops products that fulfill their customer's needs, without attempting to compel customers to use their products in unintended ways merely to secure additional contracts.

Despite all attempts, Culture Amp has declined to be responsive to our needs and will not support a reasonable transition out of the software, regardless of their ability to support our performance tooling needs.

I would caution against using Culture Amp if you have more than 100 employees or any anticipated growth. They are not the business they once were when it comes to knowing and supporting their customers and are more concerned about getting a deal signed than actually making sure their product is the right fit for your business.

Pros

At first Culture Amp was very customer-centric and committed to building a performance platform that would scale as you did. We have used Culture Amp for years and in the beginning, it was a fantastic product. If you are under 100 employees, have no growth anticipated, and do not need a robust performance management solution they could still be a good fit.

Cons

As our headcount has grown Cuture Amp has become increasingly challenging to utilize. We continue to encounter blockers, and despite feedback and requests for support, there is little Culture Amp can or will do to assist. Our business has scaled from 100 to over 400 employees in the last three years - this is not a product that can support that level of growth.

When it comes to our blockers, most notably the lack of adaptability across this product has been incredibly frustrating and a complete miss when it comes to what users are trying to achieve. For example, to support a 360 review you are required to build and manage two separate reviews (Peer + Upward & Self Reflection) and run them concurrently. Not only is this twice the setup and work to manage, but the reviews are disconnected with different UI, settings, and requirements. This duplicative work has led to administrative hurdles and a disjointed user experience. Furthermore, the necessity to reopen the entire review period to accommodate a single individual extension is ridiculous. As a result, this has led to many extra hours and a source of confusion across our organization as due dates are changed within the platform for everyone - instead of just one employee. How there is no customization when it comes to due dates for reviews at an individual level is unfathomable - and an administrative nightmare if you have more than a handful of employees.

If you're looking for meaningful visualization or data analysis of performance results then this is likely not the product for you. For example, we wanted to adopt a 9-box or talent grid model. Despite being assured that this would not be an issue, after reviewing the provided documentation, it has become evident that Culture Amp is not equipped to support this functionality at all. Rather they suggested workarounds that would impose a substantial burden on our team. Their proposal was to not use their product and instead have us build the grid ourselves entirely outside of the platform manually. It's clear that Culture Amp is not built to support these more complex features - but that they also do not see an issue in upselling when the tooling is not truly supported.

Response from Culture Amp

Michelle, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and post this review. Customers like you allow us to steadily improve how we’re building a better world of work.

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your experience working with Performance Reviews and scaling them to your growing organization. One of a kind experience

Pros

As we've been going through rapid growth, we've been sourcing and implementing a variety of new technologies. Unsurprisingly, very few meet the expectations post-launch as are described during the sales-process. Culture Amp is the smile-inspiring exception. Their product is user-friendly to a point of constant surprise. And when you do find a rare bug or glitch, they are eager (and FAST!) to address the issue. Their support team is not only knowledgeable about the product but also about culture and performance as a whole. They are true thought partners - and that is nearly invaluable. They truly want to have a positive impact on the companies that use their products, and it shows every day.

And the actual product is truly amazing. The ease of use for employees is exceptional - allowing them to take surveys, give feedback, and conduct reviews in a way that feels simple and drives the right level of feedback. And the tool then consolidates that feedback into VERY user-friendly analytics that can actually help my organization drive meaningful change for the future. Just a few years ago I remember dreaming about a world where I could easily map metrics around performance and engagement, forecasting attrition, impacting culture - that time is here and it's supported by Culture Amp.

Cons

The performance platform is new, so there is some work to be done to integrate that with the main platform. No major concerns, just a general knowledge that work is still being done in this area.

A great tool to drive performance and engagement

Very positive. Our employees are much more active in our surveys now that Culture Amp is processing all of the responses. It's also much easier to analyze results when you're not running it through a google form.

Pros

Culture Amp makes it easy to set up performance management and employee engagement activities. Their customer service is quick to respond to any questions we might have. The ease of use is fantastic.

Cons

Confidentiality protections are tough to undo if you set them up wrong. Definitely make sure you read up on them before releasing a survey!

Not for people with learning difficulties, good software but awful product support

My experience has been terrible, not due to the software but due to the Product Support team. They take hours to get back to you and it does feel like they are not concerned with smaller clients.

Pros

The software platform is robust. It has a lot of helpful features.

Cons

Setting up the engagement survey can be painful, especially with awful product support. Most guides are in writing, so dyslexics will find get confused. They have a lot of bespoke terminology that takes time to get used to.

Big CA fans here

We're long time users of Culture Amp's employee engagement tool and have always rated their product, support and overall experience very highly. We've also had great feedback from employees completing the survey and managers using the manager dashboard - so it's not just us in the People and Culture team who love it, but people from across the whole company.

The tool is very customisable allowing us to add and remove questions depending on what we're focusing on as a company and also letting us add company values-specific questions (in saying this though, the questions that CA provide you with to begin with are really great). Real time feedback on participation rates allows us to send targeted reminders to teams when numbers are looking low. Information is able to be clearly delivered to the Exec team and managers immediately too, meaning that People and Culture aren't seen as 'gatekeepers' of this information. The industry specific benchmarks that they can provide you with are also extremely helpful.

Their support team are always quick to get back in touch should you need something - and with personalised messages too, not an automated "look at our knowledgebase" or "have you tried watching these videos" that are generally never very helpful. The team are all extremely knowledgeable about the product as well as the science behind surveying, psychometrics and of course employee engagement and happiness.

We're also now currently exploring the possibility of using their 360 degree feedback tool that promises to be just as awesome as their engagement tool.

Generally we're a company of big Culture Amp fans and we're all looking forward to seeing what this awesome company comes up with next!

I think, this is a good tool to measure the engagement and check whether employees are engagement and vice versa.

Pros

We can check our engagement parameter. Employers can do a lot of improvement with the end result. Can use as a KPI or directions on area for improvements.

Cons

The questionnaires are generic and do not apply or relevant to certain campers.

A Useful Workplace Tool

Pros

At first I questioned why my company had yet another platform to learn. But now, seeing all the features and different ways Culture Amp supports employees and the company, I really appreciate the breadth and depth, and relative ease of use for employee interface objectives.

Cons

Every once in a while, I experience tremendous problems logging in - usually login is automatic, until it isn't. I've learned to go away for awhile then try again later. I suppose this could be when the system is down for maintenance, but the timing suggests maybe not. Notifications about system maintenance would be nice.

Excellent! Culture Amp takes the guesswork out of interpreting survey data.

Pros

Ease of setting up the survey, and then all of the built-in analytics makes it easy to interpret and present your data. Now CultureAmp even takes your data and creates the entire powerpoint presentation for you!

Cons

I would love to define "Leaders" a little more specifically as "senior leadership" or "executive leadership" because people get confused, but if I change anything at all to the factor I will lose the ability to compare the factor to past surveys.
Also, while I like the new Text Analytics function, the algorithm is off in interpreting positive and negative sentiment of a comment and from categorizing the gist of the comment. I had to re-categorize 360 comments myself because the algorithm was off quite a bit.

Culture Amp, a partner for success

Culture Amp helped us restart our employee engagement survey process at a critical time for Wikimedia. They quickly gained the trust of staff and leadership, providing an in depth survey, with robust benchmarking and analysis. The Culture Amp team went above and beyond, presenting results to staff, and then to leadership as well as our board. They also created post-survey workshops to help staff own the next steps, by focusing on the areas of most impact and brainstorm sessions on how to effect change.

After a successful employee engagement process, Wikimedia also sought out Culture Amp to guide us on a new diversity and inclusion survey. Culture Amp was a step ahead, having already established a partnership to develop extensive data collection, combined with inclusion specific engagement survey.

For both surveys, the Culture Amp system has been amazingly easy to use and customizable. As surveys are active, we can real time updates and details. Data is viewable starting a at a high overview, with the ability to dive deeper and deeper into the results for greater analysis and understanding. Also important to Wikimedia is the ability to provide confidentiality to staff, which Culture Amp easily supports.

Culture Amp has been an amazing and trusted partner, and we look forward to continued collaborations!
