Love Subbly & their support team!

For our first couple of years in business, I used a competitor's back-end platform for my subscription box, and switching to Subbly was one of the best decisions I have made for my business! Subbly offers some great functionality (e.g., commitment terms), their platform is easy to use, and their support team is second to none. It's actually shocking (in a good way!) how responsive and helpful their support team is. If you're thinking of starting any sort of subscription business, don't even look at the other guys; go with Subbly!

Pros

Subbly's customer service and support is amazing! I also love being able to offer commitment terms to my subscribers. The financial commitment is obviously beneficial for my business, and my subscribers appreciate being able to pay monthly for any subscription length.

Cons

I honestly can't think of anything! During my 2+ years on Subbly, anytime I have had a question, concern, or issue, the Subbly team is quick to respond, help, and/or escalate to the developer team.

Love this site.

My experience with Subbly has been great. I took longer to get started than I planned, but I'm finding it fairly easy to get things done.

Pros

I love that it's set up for one purpose, subscriptions. I also like the help that the staff gives to help you get to where you need to be.

Cons

Nothing. I know if I need assistance, I can ask for it.

Customer Service could be better

There was a lot of features that I didn't know how to use

Pros

I was supposed to have a meeting with someone to help me with the features and benefits and they changed the meeting to be with someone else and then it was cancelled and never rescheduled.

Cons

Customer Service not meeting the minimum requirements. It appears they do everything to reel you in and just leave you hanging.

Highly Recommend

I really would recommend Subbly if you are looking for an easy and effective way to set up a subscription website. The store configuration and website are ideal for subscriptions and memberships.

Pros

First and foremost, customer service is the number one pro with Subbly. Subbly's team truly goes above and beyond to help. As someone who has limited tech/software knowledge and wants to be able to just focus on my business, having a company that can help address website/store configuration questions and concerns immediately and in a succinct way is vital.
Additionally, Subbly seems to be consistently adding features, improvements, and new ways to gain and maintain subscribers.

Cons

I have very little issues with Subbly so far. Any issues I have had, were immediately addressed and corrected.

You won't regret giving Subbly a try!!

It's been a pleasure to deal with. I love the customer service and the whole team are really friendly and helpful. They listen to us customers and seem to want to grow and improve with us and what our needs are. I love that some of the big boxes use them too as this is handy if we need help too. For example Buster Box and I've been on one of [sensitive content hidden] courses, so the people in his group are also knowledgable of things. It truly is the best experience I have had with building an audience from scratch and trying to learn how to grow and maintain all the things I need to! Having people/the bot there ready to answer and help is such a relief. I'm not scared to try anymore and I just want to learn how to do all the things on it myself! Thank you Subbly!

Pros

I love the university video and written guides.
Any question I have of how or what to do can be answered by either being able to find it in these guides, asking the chat bot or by actually speaking to a tech guy. They are always around and the Facebook group comes in very handy too.
The website design is easy to navigate and get used to once you play around and learn all the things. I love that I can sell my box and products at the same time.

Cons

I wish there were some scope to have just one or two cancellation options like we can implement them on the Subbly plan. I know that is the whole point of paying the different tiers, but if you allowed just one or two to be included on the basic plan, I think that would be ideal for us to use. Being able to just try one would more than likely get me to upgrade as I grow because no doubt I would need more than one! I would have liked to purchase the next plan too as I love that we can get someone to help with the design of our website, because I definitely need help with conversions on mine!!

Unbelievable and affordable platform - Everything you need, all in one!

Subbly has been incredible, I only wish I'd discovered it sooner. As a subscription business, this offers we everything I need - from product creation, checkout setup, to website building and design and email automations. I've done everything myself all within the free trial period of Subbly - when website designers had quoted between $5000-$10000 to do it for me. It's so much better to do it yourself, not just the savings, but to understand your system and to be able to make any minor adjustments yourself whenever you like, without relying on someone else and incurring those ongoing costs.

Pros

The customer service is out of this world. [sensitive content hidden] in particular have gone over and above explaining things to me, being very friendly and patient, and even filming demonstration videos. I love how user-friendly everything is - its so clean, clear and simple (though I have needed help because my subscription service is a little complicated).
THEN I noticed your website builder - I actually had already made a website recently with Square - and now I'm rebuilding the entire thing. Your website builder is insane. To just drag and drop elements, to be able to customise how everything looks so easily, to be able to embed code myself (as a non-tech person!), to have everything integrate seemlessly with my products. I can tell that this business has been setup by a perfectionist who wants to get every part right for subscription businesses - and I'm here for it!!

Cons

I'd love the currency converter to be included in your basic plan, I think this is a really essential feature for a lot of businesses. Also if integrating with social media was one of your drag and drop elements.

Keeping it real

Great to work with a company also in start up period. The more established ones may be well built when you join, but you don't get much say in how they progress. When you deal with Subbly team you are dealing with real people, not chatbots. Keeping digital personal.

Pros

Great response time with queries, awesome UXP, clear dashboard and a nice and stable website.

Cons

Payment systems for customers were a bit clunky back in the day, but one of the great things about Subbly is you can ask them to add options and once enough members ask the same thing they do. Payment systems up to standard of other platforms now.

Pros

I can not get over the fact that I got to speak with a REAL human being ([sensitive content hidden]), and a lovely one at that! He was so helpful and encouraging about our new business and assuring us that he will help anytime we need it. It's a good option to start your subscription business

Pros

I liked the ease I had to make a website. It was pretty drag and drop, which coming from WordPress (where it had such a steep learning curve), was a Godsend. Especially because I had to run my business in the background too. I also liked the help of almost all my questions with their library. They have videos, articles and if you really need it, you can message or have a conference call it get someone to explain features.

Also, it's reassuring to know that your customer data and info is in good hands. If there's an issue, there's a group of people who can hold your hand and help you.

Cons

It was still a learning curve which is to be expected. However, when you learn Subbly's features it feels like you're caging yourself in because there's much less customizability (unlike WordPress). There were several instances where I had to change parts of my business because Subbly wasn't capable of some of the things I was asking. It can be pretty frustrating because you're molding your business to adapt to Subbly, when I thought the platform would be a good tool for my business to be better.

So, I think maybe making the platform more customizable in the future, would help people who are moving from WordPress not lose the freedom to make their business however they want without compromising so much, so having to change parts of their model to adapt to Subbly.

Subbly - from a content creator and artist's perspective

My overall experience has been smooth and the transition from my previous platform, seamless. I was able to set up the subscription tiers and integrate the code into a landing page on my website within a single day. I've yet to encounter any hiccups but I'm fully confident that if I do, their customer service team will be quick to reply. So far all my questions have been answered by their robust help pages. Instead of a paltry FAQ page, they have an entire bible on how to use their site. Since moving to Subbly I've seen my subscribers nearly double. I've had nothing but compliments from my supporters on how easy and professional the checkout/subscription process has been for them.

Pros

By far my favorite feature is the integrated survey option. Rather than having to create a send a separate questionnaire to my subscribers, I can create a unique survey for each subscription tier. This has allowed me to tailor my product to individual customers and provide a much more personal experience while also up-selling additional items.

Cons

The one feature I would like to see implemented differently is the current inventory tracking options. I am not currently selling individual items, only subscriptions, but I would like the ability to limit the number of subscriptions available for a given tier. Currently the only way to do this is to add the "inventory tracking and management" add-on to your Subbly subscription. At $39/mo this is an expensive feature for someone like myself who isn't really looking to track inventory, just limit subscriber numbers. At the moment I find it too large of an expense for me to justify adding it to my account.

Alternatives Considered

Podia

Reasons for Choosing Subbly

Patreon has some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They do not respond to emails or tweets. Time and time again I've seen the company continue to invest in new features while the older, foundation features are left to rot without upgrades or bug fixes. Other artists who have far more supporters than myself were having additional problems such as dropped subscriptions due to bugs. I thought it better to move platforms before my following became so large that such a migration would be a real headache!

Reasons for Switching to Subbly

All of these alternatives were light on features. Many of them weren't set up for physical products and do not allow you to limit the number of subscribers. Some were significantly more expensive all while offering fewer customization options.

Very Happy that I chose Subbly

Pros

I think that this platform has exceeded my expectations. I am super impressed with how truly and continually supportive the gang at Subbly have been, right from the time that they were working with me to understand my requirements, throughout onboarding and set up, and now for ongoing customer support as Subbly and I ‘get acquainted’. They have been able to answer all the questions I have had and provide solutions to any challenges I have come across. I appreciate that they don’t just “drop ya as soon as they got ya” 😊

Cons

As I said, I am very happy with Subbly, I think it would be great to see some sort of live collaboration tools, where support techs and customers can share screens to resolve troubles. This said, when necessary, they do send recorded screen share videos where techs explain and demonstrate, which has been very helpful for me.

Response from Subbly

Dear Becky, thank you very much for your kind words and for taking the time to leave us this wonderful review, we greatly appreciate your effort!

Pros

I used to have squarespace, but the platform was not build around a subscription. in contrary subbly is. It is easier to navigate data, process payments and modify subscriptions.

Cons

There are some functionalities not available like exporting some data from the users. You have to enter profile by profile to check what they did because you can not do a direct download.

We love Subbly!

Bottom line...Subbly is user friendly and reliable. Their support team is awesome. I don't feel I have to worry about messing anything up when I'm working within the software like I did with the last company we used. There is always someone on chat to help. They are prompt in answering my questions in a courteous and friendly manner. The Subbly team is very progressive and always looking for ways to improve and make things easier for us.

Pros

We switched over to Subbly from another well-known subscription provider due to too many issues. We've been using Subbly now for a couple of years and everything has been running very smoothly. They have an AMAZING customer support team. They are always very polite, helpful, and answer all our questions in a timely manner. Someone like me who is not very tech savvy, they are sure to explain it to me in a way I can understand. They have on several occasions sent me videos so I can "see" how to do something. We started out using just the subscription management, but liked them so much, decided to build a new website with them, as well. Now everything will all be under one roof. Highly recommend the Subbly team!

Cons

Well, there is always room for improvement in anything. The "gift" subscription feature is lacking. My customers find it very confusing. I get angry emails all the time saying, "Hey, I just subscribed and received a confirmation and now I'm getting a cancellation notice...why are you canceling me?"...and I have to take the time to explain it to them. Also, since we are in different countries, the date/time sometimes throws things off. For example, I might change someone's sub to renew on the 15th of the month, and it will renew on the 14th instead. It's always a day off.

Response from Subbly

Dear Jamie, thank you very much for your review! Our focus is always on our customers and on providing the highest possible level of service to them. We're sorry to hear that some features are not working as you expected them to, however, your detailed feedback will help us look into these issues and fix them. We take such feedback very seriously and have even created a page, where you can request improvements to the existing features or even tell us about some new features you'd like to see, you can always share your ideas with us here https://subbly.canny.io/feature-requests.

Subbly Review

When we set up our subscription business, we looked at Subbly and Cratejoy. We ultimately went with Subbly to set up our website because it was cheaper to set and the fees per transaction were significantly less than Cratejoy. But also we liked the look of the Subbly backend and the helpdesk and support is outstanding. We do sell on Cratejoy marketplace but I don't like it - they fleece both the customer and the supplier with their charges and the support is poor. And don't get me started on their financial side.We made a great choice choosing Subbly. It has eased our transition into the subscription market and has allowed is to easily control our business. I am very happy and would recommend to all subscription box provoders.

Pros

Whenever I have encountered an issue with Subbly - usually of my own making - the support team at Subbly has always helped me out, usually straightaway. They have talked me through changes, done some for me and made me videos to follow. They are always here for me and always check back to make sure i'm happy.I like the ease with which I was able to set up the website without needing any computer training and the ability to have both subscription products and one-off products. There is a lot more functionality with Subbly that I have not delved into yet but so far I am very pleased and my business is ticking along nicely.

Cons

Overall, I am very impressed with the software. I would like to see more options for financial reports. Right now for sales tax there is a CSV file to download but it could be more robust. There are some issues with downloading to pirate ship items that aren't due to go out in that period which can be frustrating if i forget to "ignore" them.I would like to understand the "media" section better to be able to render photos that load quickly but that is probably more to do with me than the software.

Subbly is ace for us.

Pros

The ability to get the job done by way of setting up and maintaining/managing new subscriptions. Easy to use, reasonably priced. Love the MMR feature.

Cons

It's a bit complicated for customers to use, and we often get people wanting more info, or struggling to amend their monthly subscription, so it requires us being a lot more involved in the admin side of things than we would like. That said, we are aware we could do a few things better, and the bubbly team are always at hand to help. We have a very small team so this is something we need to mail in the not too distant future.

Unbeatable customer services

We're happy with Subbly. We don't plan on going anywhere. Good integrations, good features and new ones all the time, great customer service.

Pros

The fact that it's built specifically for sub boxes sealed the deal.
Amazing customer service keeps us with this platform
It was important to us, when starting out, that they don't hold your box and followers/subscribers hostage if you choose to leave.

Cons

New features can be very glitchy. I wasn't able to use the gift certificate feature during the holidays, because it was buggy. Those sorts of things need to be rolled out during the lulls in the year. Might also be useful to beta new features with existing users at various levels of tech literacy. The website builder could be more straightforward. I'm fairly tech savvy and I had to bring in a designer to set things up. I've had to pull him back in here and there. I want to be able to do it all myself. It would be helpful to have videos for the most common issues. The few videos I watched were not particularly helpful for the initial build out. They need to be made for the person who knows almost nothing. Step by step. Assume nothing.

For subscription businesses, they are the best option

Subbly is for me one of the best way to manage subscription businesses. Lot of things are missing but they are working really hard to improve their plateform and they are really aware of customer need.

For me it's really a good solution.

Pros

The best things with subbly is the customer support. No matter which question you may have, they will always be available to answer. FOr some technical point they can even register a short video to show you how to fix your issue.
Other point, the site is easy to understand. Lot of things has been simplified so that even a newer can set up his own website.

Cons

The more difficult point is the website builder. In comparaison with other website builder it's not the easiest. The drop and drag functions are not fully in place. So you have to be creative to do what you imagine.

Other point : not that many application for now. They are adding new app on a regular basis, so it will be better soon

Checked out the rest, Subbly is the best

I spent a lot of time researching what product to use to launch my subscription box. I actually started somewhere else and within days had switched to Subbly. Now I'm here to stay.

Pros

1) It's reliable. I love that I can trust Subbly to do the work even while I'm not. I've never had a single customer contact with me with problems with the system. It does what it does, and I don't have to worry about whether it's going to work the way it's supposed to or not. 2) It's supportive and helpful. The support team is crazy knowledgable about the ins and outs of their system and they are always willing to help and see any issue through to its resolution. They always make sure a problem is solved before they leave it. That's actually pretty huge. 3)It's pretty easy to learn, if intimidating at first. I love that even though I'd never made a website before, I could quickly learn to use the tools Subbly provides to make a professional-looking one.

Cons

If anything, I'm not sure the analytics are always correct. Pretty sure the pageviews section isn't working right because I think I had a zillion before I even connected my domain, which makes no sense.

New to Subbly - give it a go

To date, I've been thrilled with the customer service - they respond by email if you've had to go away from the computer so even if you aren't online you get a response to your submitted query. Their 'chat' service is normally quick to respond, and they are happy to record you a quick Loom video to show you what you need to do - so its personalised too. Couldn't fault the customer service. Its allowed me to get my business started. Now it needs to 'run'.

Pros

The set up & free trial give you the opportunity to see what settings work best for you. It had been recommended as the software best suited for my requirements.

Cons

Some of the 'jargon' could be clearer - its confusing at parts. But a quick message to support normally clear it up in minutes. Great customer service responses.

Response from Subbly

Dear Nicky, thank you for the kind words about our team! Your review means a lot to us and lets us know we're on the right track!

The best customer service

If you’re looking for a subscription platform that’s packed with features and backed by exceptional customer support, I can’t recommend Subbly enough. It’s made running my business smoother and more enjoyable, and my customers love how seamless the subscription experience is. Thank you, Subbly, for being an integral part of my business journey!

Pros

I can’t say enough good things about Subbly! As the owner of a subscription box business, I needed a platform that was reliable, easy to use, and adaptable to my specific needs – Subbly delivers on all fronts. The interface is intuitive, making it simple to manage subscriptions, update products, and track customer data.

But what truly sets Subbly apart is their amazing customer service. Every time I’ve had a question or needed guidance, their support team has gone above and beyond to help. They’re not just responsive – they’re genuinely invested in helping businesses like mine succeed. It feels like having a partner in my business rather than just a service provider.

Cons

That said, there are a couple of areas where I feel Subbly could improve. For instance, customers currently can’t leave feedback or reviews directly under one-time products, which feels like a missed opportunity for businesses to showcase testimonials or build trust around those items. Having this feature would make it easier to highlight the quality of individual products and encourage repeat purchases.

Love subbly ❤️

Ive rarely needed customer support as its a fairly easy platform to set up and use (i am a technophobe btw! So this says a lot) however on the rare occasion ive needed support the team have been fab! Very quick too. Really cant say that for a lot of big platforms like wix, faire or mailerlite that i use often but are beyond frustrating to work with.

Pros

I do love subbly😍 my subbox would have churned out by now without subblys toolkit and the addons function is definitely helping the bottom line and ultimately my stress levels cause for every 1 that leaves at least 2 more have doubled their box 📦 😀

Cons

They are a newish platform so all functionality isnt in place as yet. The subbly i signed up to 2 years ago is a baby compared to the subbly of today. But they are constantly evolving and taking feedback from founders in the industry so are on the leading edge of all developments so im excited to see where well both end up! 😀

Alternatives Considered

PayWhirl, Recharge and Shopify

Reasons for Choosing Subbly

I am still on wix for ecom and front end. However i switched my back end subscription element to a subbly checkout from a wix subscription function. Subblys commitment terms and dunning functions were the main reasons for the switch.

Reasons for Switching to Subbly

I considered swapping fully from wix to either subbly fully ot shopify with paywhirl or recharge for various reasons to be all on 1 platform. I was tied into a contract with wix so couldn't leave them fully when creating my subbox so just adding the subbly backend at checkout was the best fit. Also gives me the best of both worlds.

Pros

Super helpful. I'm not an IT guy and ger frustrated. I almost quit the platform. [sensitive content hidden] did a great job creating video to show me what I needed to do.

Cons

A few on the customer staff need more training. I felt like I was running is circles with a few of them.

Subbly is popular

The one really cool thibg about subbly is that they do not hold your data hostage allowing you to switch platforms at any given time, unlike all of the other major platforms out there. This is crucial for a small business owner. The website is full of information and shows you everything you need to know. Easy to read and follow.

Pros

Subbly is a popular subscription box platform that offers a comprehensive solution for businesses looking to start or manage subscription services. Its super easy to use, you dont have to be a computer genius to use this. The subscription plans can be customized, theres good customer service, but most importantly it is a platform that alliws you to build your website (or transfer your old one) manage your subscriptions, and provides e-commerce. Thats everything you neec for managing a subscription business.

Cons

This platform can be kind of pricey , especially for small business owners. It also has fewer third party integrations which does not give you flexibility.

Unpleasant Experience with Subbly – Not Recommended

I regret to share our recent experience with Subbly over the past two months. Unfortunately, our interaction with the company has been far from satisfactory, and I feel compelled to detail our concerns for the benefit of other potential users.

Firstly, Subbly has consistently refused to provide comprehensive company information, a practice that appears to violate UK laws.

Secondly, while their response time is commendable, our communication with Subbly has been consistently unproductive. Our requests were met with rejection, demonstrating a lack of client-centricity on their part.

Thirdly, the payment policy of Subbly does not include provisions for refunds. Consequently, we refrained from utilizing their services throughout the entire month, investing valuable time in correspondence with no positive outcome. Upon realizing Subbly's refusal to comply with legal obligations and accommodate our concerns, we made the decision to terminate our association with their services. Despite our unused subscription, Subbly declined our request for a refund.

In conclusion, our experience with Subbly has been marred by unresponsiveness, and an inflexible payment policy. We advise potential users to carefully consider these aspects before engaging with Subbly, as our encounter has been both frustrating and disappointing.

Pros

Responded quickly, but not enough to resolve our request

Cons

1. Subbly has consistently refused to provide comprehensive company information, a practice that appears to violate UK laws.
2. Our communication with Subbly has been consistently unproductive. Our requests were met with rejection, demonstrating a lack of client-centricity on their part.
3. The payment policy of Subbly does not include provisions for refunds.

Response from Subbly

Unfortunately there was a breakdown in internal escalation processes, and even though I personally reached out to rectify the situation and to explain that we did have the necessary provisions and capabilities for their needs, the ship had unfortunately and understandably sailed.

Internally we have done some education and tightened up processes to prevent this happening again.

Extending my personal apology again for this mishap, and I wish the merchant the best of luck and future success with their onwards subscription-first mission!

Pros

Though it took me a while, it was quite easy to use, there are options for single items and subscriptions which is a nice way to set things up. I'm happy my customers are able to manage their account much easier on this system

Cons

It took me forever to set up and I needed external help. THAT SAID, I am not a great tech person. So if you're more of a techie than I, you should be just fine.

What I think about Subbly after testing it for several months.

Pros

Subbly has enabled me to launch my business. With a subscription-based focus, Subbly made it easy to set up without the need for multiple plugins, which could have been much costlier through other providers. Their customer service is excellent—prompt responses, and they even send you personalized videos to assist with your page and provide further help.

Cons

I wanted to implement discounts, for instance, for Black Friday across all items at once and display the original and discounted prices with different reduction percentages without requiring a discount code. Additionally, I was interested in having a feature directly on the website to create shipping labels.

What a HUGE improvement over every other system we'e ever tried to use

Pros

We have moved all of our clients and new business from the old clunky PayPal process (which was also VERY insecure!) to Subbly so that signing up for our services is now super easy, much faster, and much more secure. Managing users and seeing a real-time view of our entire business through the extensive dashboard has changed the way that we view our entire business. We're more informed than ever before, which shows us where we need to focus our efforts.

Cons

There's really nothing that I don't like about Subbly. While there are a LOT of features and functions in it that we don't use, it is nice to know that it has everything we need as we continue to grow.

Honest opinions from a 2+ year Subbly User

Pros

If you are looking to get started with your subscription based business or even if you have been doing your business for years already, I 100% recommend Subbly. It is EXTREMELY USER FRIENDLY and there are so much options and customizable features for every niche. You dont have to code a single thing if you do not want to and you still have just as much customizable features as a pro web designer.

Cons

Subbly does offer basic email marketing, and it is editable. However, I think it needs more flexibility. Unlike Klaviyo or Mailchimp which are specifically designed for email marketing, Subbly is limited in its capabilites. Although Subbly does offer a multitude of 3rd party integrations, such as Klaviyo, it is still extremely limited. For example, I use Klaviyo, however, Subbly does not have all metrics on Klaviyo for it to even work to its full potential. If you were moving from WooCommerce and had Klaviyo integrated, and then you moved to Subbly, you will quickly learn of the "cuts" you no longer have in your email marketing simply because Subbly does not, and has not, offered a "true" or "full" integration. Personally, I feel like it's a, lack of a better term "half assed" integration. I fully believe that if Subbly wants to offer certain 3rd party integrations, like Klaviyo, it needs to be working at 100% capacity, not 75%. I beleive "little" things like this actually become a big problem when it comes to growth and eventually just becomes a burning whole in your wallet. I have brought this issue up to Subbly and they recommended getting Zapier as a solution. So now, I am paying for Subbly system, but also Klaviyo (because Subbly does not offer a flexible email marketing), but now I have to pay for Zapier as well. Then you may have to pay someone to set up your Zapier because Zapier isnt the most user friendly application. It just adds up and can be mentally exhausting.

Alternatives Considered

WooCommerce, Elementor and WordPress

Reasons for Choosing Subbly

I was on WooCommerce and I was not using WooCommerce Subscription. I was using some other 3rd party plug in for my subscriptions. One day I woke up and noticed my subscriptions/customers were gone. The plugin I was running cancelled all of my customers. I had left Subbly to go to WooCommerce because I THOUGHT I wanted something different. I reached out to Subbly, told them what happened, and asked if they could salvage my customers. Luckily, Subbly was able to migrate ALL OF MY CUSTOMERS back to Subbly. If it wasnt for this I would have just given up my business. You really dont know what you have until its gone. Even without this dramatic tragic event, there were SO MANY FEATURES I did not have on WooCommerce that I really wish I did. Now im back on Subbly running strong. I doubt ill ever leave. I learned my lesson.
