## Reviews

### "Excellent GIS-integrated Work Management Platform" — 5.0/5

> **Joe** | *26 February 2021* | Government Administration | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Cartegraph continues to improve their mobile and web-based software based on community feedback, and their support is top notch.
>
> **Cons**: Cartegraph is GIS integrated, but not as GIS-centric as it could be. Storing more of the data directly in GIS and enabling collection and manipulation from the GIS side would be a useful improvement.
>
> We are using Cartegraph to empower data collection and work management across three departments: Road \& Bridge, Facilities Management, and Waste Compliance. We continue to see more potential applications of their software platform.

### "Great Customer Support, Improve Documentation" — 4.0/5

> **Victor** | *14 November 2024* | Government Administration | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Cartegraph staff is very responsive to users need for enhancements. Product is getting better and better (though the pace of change can seem overwhelming sometimes especially with the switch to the new UI).
>
> **Cons**: Documentation of product needs to be revamped. Need to include common process steps or wizards with videos that are searchable, like search for "How to add a lookup field to an asset" and result with process like "structure manager add lookup, add lookup table, add field to layout" with a video showing the process.
>
> Very positive, though first three years was challenging with big learning curve, but Cartegraph staff very supportive\! Great work, folks\!

### "Disappointed" — 2.0/5

> **Beth** | *3 December 2024* | Government Administration | Recommendation rating: 1.0/10
>
> **Pros**: The Classic version of the software webpage is relatively easy to teach to new users. The software generally does what it's designed to do.
>
> **Cons**: The app(s) situation is atrocious. We started with CG 5 years ago and in that time we've had to learn 3 different apps: Cartegraph for Ipad, Cartegraph One, and now Cartegraph Asset Mangement. Each app was significantly different from one another and this necessitated pulling everyone in from the field for hour + long training sessions. Not only that, but the latest app CAM, is constantly undergoing renovations such that with every update, buttons are moved around, and (for field crew) superfluous additions crowd the screen. This latest app is touted to be used on a cell phone but there is so much happening on the screen, it's very difficult for new users to grasp what's occurring (and we use ipads). Supervisors in my town do not want me to teach the app anymore because of the updates and the need to pause field work to do additional training. We have a lot of non-native English speakers working with us and on top of the language barrier, the updates and nested functions are a real blow to productivity. On top of that, I was told the classic version we are using is going away in 2026. So that will require even more training.

Also CG is only a mid-level partner with ESRI so some simple GIS functionality like Snapping, labeling and symbology isn't available. When I collect data, I have to go back and "clean it up". Snap signs to street lights, etc or signs to poles. And I can't see existing features when I'm creating a new one to make sure I'm putting it in the same location.

Additionally, I've been asking for some small modifications of the original software since adoption and those ideas have been placed in "future consideration" permanently. The Ideas Portal that CG touts is where ideas go to die; it's a webpage for you to feel like you are contributing to the betterment of their software. They are taking the functionality of the classic software and replicating it in the app so all new "updates" are just features that were available on the original software. 99.9% of the people in the field do not need all the functionality available. They want to enter their time and go home.

I realize software changes regularly (See ArcGIS Pro and the iOS photos app). But most of my public works people are not software nerds. They need consistency.

I would recommend a different AM software that's more mature. You'd think that because CG is 20+ years old, they would be "mature" but when OpenGov acquired CG, they prioritized rolling CG up into their existing software rather than think about the end user.
>
> If it were easy to jump ship, and switch programs, I would. I feel we've been given poor direction from day 1 and any concerns about updates and app changes have been ignored. They've offered additional training but fail to see that it's all the changes they keep making that's the problem. I've done software implementations in the past for other developers; I can train people, that's not the issue. The issue is pulling the people from the field on a regular basis to show them where a button moved to is a waste of time.

### "Please keep Classic UI" — 4.0/5

> **Marli** | *14 November 2024* | Utilities | Recommendation rating: 8.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Classic UI, how customizable and editable it is, layouts, map functionality and integration with ESRI, other integrations, automations, etc.
>
> **Cons**: Would've been a 10 recommendation and 5 stars for Cartegraph if it wasn't for hearing that Classic UI is going away. I think getting rid of Classic is going to be an issue for a lot of municipalities.
>
> Very good, love Cartegraph. Please keep Classic UI. The new UI is fine but it's just not there yet to get rid of Classic. Classic is visually neat, understandable, and user friendly. The New UI is a bit cluttered and not as user friendly or visually appealing or understandable in my and many of my coworkers opinions. I know the new UI's stark white and bright background gives some people eye strain and headaches/migraines as well and some employees will likely refuse to use it until there is at least a dark mode option.

### "Frederick County, MD Cartegraph Review" — 4.0/5

> **Stacy** | *14 November 2024* | Utilities | Recommendation rating: 7.0/10
>
> **Pros**: The ability to see our assets and tasks on the map and our equipment usage.
>
> **Cons**: Not being able to change an asset on a task if an employee has assigned the task to the incorrect asset. Also, just the changes that are being made to the app have been a lot and we wish they would have been done all at once and then pushed out to the app. Our staff has had difficulty keeping up with all the changes and some functions are not available as the app is being rebuilt.
>
> It has been a huge learning experience but the more we use it the more information we are able to collect for historical data.
