Bloomberg - The Pro's and Con's

Overall after getting used to it I have enjoyed using it however I do feel that it is more aimed at large multinationals rather than smaller shops.

Pros

The Bloomberg terminal unsurprisingly is the best software available for up to date information in the financial world. They have a huge amount of data instantly available and also have an incredible helpline. Any question you have you will be connected to a specialist almost instantly allowing you to go about your day while they find a solution. I personally have had numerous odd questions that they have somehow been able to figure out.

Cons

Two areas where I believe Bloomberg has cons is firstly the price. Depending on how many are purchased the price can be north of £30,000 which is extortionate and unreasonable for small businesses. I also felt that the software was difficult to use at first making progress initially very slow.

Terminal Twilight

I use the terminal for commodities and equities. The commodity portion has gotten steadily worse since 2018. Data disappears, much of the cash pricing is in accurate and a mess. I have taken to using a competing product for commodity data. It is fine for equities and IB, which I need. If you need commodity data, any of the competitors offer a much better product at a lower price.

Pros

The charting and graphing tools generally work well.

Cons

Data is often incorrect and should not be taken at face value. Data sets seem to disappear without warning, so relying on it vs the competition can be problematic. The product seems to be getting buggier every day. The news is at least for commodities is awful...slow, stale, and not at all cutting edge.

In an industry where the most valuable is time, Bloomberg saves us tons.

Great experience. The HELP (customer service) department works as a swiss clock. The ease of use and the new developments make our daily tasks easier everyday.

Pros

In an industry where the most valuable is time, Bloomberg saves us tons. Integrated tools and metrics allow our team to save time and efforts developing Excel calculators.

Cons

We must say it, price is a big handicap. For a small company as ours, having a tool as Bloomberg Terminal is a MUST, but price is a big burden.
