About Basecamp

Basecamp is a real-time communication tool that helps teams stay on the same page; it’s less for traditional project management tasks (e.g., resource planning and long-term scheduling). With to-do-lists, calendaring, due dates and file-sharing, Basecamp provides a way for teams to keep track of priorities and actionable items. Since 2004, Basecamp has focused on developing a simple interface in which users can create projects, document progress and manage tasks. It is a web-based software, allowing users to sign in anywhere, any time, either through a web browser or through apps compatible with a large number of mobile devices. Not specific to a single industry, Basecamp can be deployed by any organization that needs to manage a group, including nonprofits, startups and client service firms—and it can even be used by freelancers. Subscriptions are scalable, with tiers for varying amounts of storage and numbers of users.

Basecamp made managing my team members easier than ever!

You can call it the Jack of All Trades. Before using Basecamp I had to use a lot of apps for different purposes. For example, one to-do app, another file-sharing app, another messaging app, and so on. It hampered my productivity. But luckily I found Basecamp and this thing got me covered. Now I can have fewer meetings with my team members and save time to do something productive. The integration with other app made it the real hero. I can automate my tasks on Basecamp by using popular integration services and those work seamlessly with Basecamp.

Pros

I have been using Basecamp for a while now. I am genuinely in love with the overall user interface of this platform. It is very easy to use and intuitive. The free plan of the Basecamp is quite generous and it is enough for most of the users. This is why I love this tool so much. But there are some other features that are really helping me to manage my remote team. I can easily assign tasks with deadlines. The email notification system and the mobile app added to the overall value of this tool. I observed that it loads faster on any device with a slower internet connection. This is why my team members even from countries with slow internet can easily access this tool. Overall, the experience is top-notch and I recommend everyone to use this tool.

Cons

There is nothing that I hate about this product. But I think the amazing developer team behind this tool can bring some improvements to the existing features. The price for the Business Plan is quite affordable for large teams. But if they can bring some affordable paid plan for the individual users it would be so much helpful.

Like the new layout

Previously used and moved away. The new Basecamp 3 has a sleak look and brings the platform to a modern era

Pros

Super quick to get TODOs added and assigned
Easy to duplicate and reprioritize

Cons

When you have many projects and teams it can be a bit difficult
Lack of user permission customisation

Too simple for what it's trying to achieve

We tried to replicate our workflow in Basecamp and it fell short in various aspects that are vital for our everyday use, so we decided not to keep investing time in trying to make it work for us.

Pros

The platform is lightning fast, very intuitive, the customer service is great and it's super easy to use with a clean UI and no complications.

The pricing scheme is very convenient too, because you pay a flat price and not a per user price, which is hard to find nowadays.

Cons

The BIG con is the feature list, which is really small when compared to similar services.

Sure you can integrate it with Zapier and expand it's features, it lacks native features that are pretty much a standard today.

It lacks a reporting component, which is vital for our needs.

I think this software is for entry-level businesses and not that suitable for medium size and on.

We didn't choose Basecamp, it was a discarded platform.

Excellent Product for Project Management

Our team was able to streamline the management of both internal and external projects. Using the document sharing feature in each task was a great tool for us since we have a LOT of files attached to every project.

Pros

Basecamp was easy to use and understand for our team. Setting it up needed a bit of learning especially for those technologically challenged, but once they got the hang of it they found it useful and increased their productivity.

Cons

There aren't any reporting features in Basecamp. We would have liked to have a way of keeping track of how many tasks were being done or not done, the number of tasks assigned to each team member, the time taken to complete the tasks, etc.

Awesome project management application

Loved using Basecamp for previous company. Used for several years. Greatly improved document sharing with field employees and communications among the entire company. Tried to bring on for current company but upper management wanted geo fences with our timeclock application.

Pros

You can't beat the features for the price is you are a small to medium business. Great for document sharing, simple schedule/calendars, tracking project progress, etc.

Cons

Integrations for some apps can be a bit clunky and can get pricey (that's not on Basecamp), depends on the capabilities you need.

Reasons for Switching to Basecamp

The features offered for the price. We needed unlimited users to pull in clients & subs for collabs and that gets pricey with most of the other options
