Samsara - Driving Fleet Safety

Samsara has improved the quality of data we receive as well as the ability to gather and share the same in a timely manner.

Pros

The equipment we received was good quality and easy to install. Software was simple to install.

Cons

As with any new system there is a learning curve but Samara's support team is there every step of the way. They will check on you weather you ask or not.

Samsara Review

Overall a good product. The drivers seem to be able to work their way through the onboarding process with ease.

Pros

The device itself is very easy to use. A good driver experience.

Cons

Some of the support persons seem like they are learning the product themselves. To a motor carrier, we need quick response to issues with immediate answers.

If you have a fleet of vehicles, get the Samsara system!

Everything about the system makes every aspect of our operation easier. The installation process is simple and can be done by anyone in our office. The online dashboard makes retrieving information easy. With having a 24/7 operation, having the ability to access the cameras anywhere and at anytime is reassuring. Since starting with Samsara we have saved money and time, which is priceless.

Pros

Since putting the Samsara system in our vehicles we have decreased our drivers idle time, eliminated dangerous driving behaviors in drivers and been able to verify client complaints. Our dispatchers are able to see where the vehicles are when clients ask why their ride is late. Our mechanics use the system to pre-diagnose issues with the vehicle.The system is an invaluable tool.

Cons

There are some vehicles that don't have all diagnostics available. We would like to see more interaction with all vehicles.

Very good option

Great tool that has definitely reduced tickets, violations or incidents in our fleet if used properly to coach concerning drivers behaviors.

Pros

It's ability to monitor driving practices and the individual driver scorecards that help us coach behaviors to drivers of concern.

Cons

I don't feel the AI technology or ability to read speed limit signs are very accurate but there are, "work arounds" to internally repair incorrect speed limits no matter location.

very easy to use and helps a lot with confirming the arrival and departures of deliveries. also helps with complaints about trucks being able to verify speeds and route of truck if someone complains about being in a restricted area.

wish it was easier to fix off duty drivers that forgot to go off duty at the end of the day. it will also track the driver in their own personal vehicle

Samsara Product Review

Great. good support and very easy for the drivers to use.

Pros

Turn key ELD and Video Platform. A true value to our company. Losses are already decreasing.

Cons

Not being able to post scores on safety events on a per event basis. Drivers that log more miles are at an advantage for higher scores. Per event is preferred but not possible.

Samsara is a good system with room to improve.

Generally, I have enjoyed working with the Samsara people and system.

Pros

Having the ability to tune the Samsara system to tailor alerts for our type of business.

Cons

The Samsara AI used to trigger alerts such as following too close or closing in too fast on the car ahead do not work well. This causes me to review alerts that are a waste of my time. The AI trigger points are not tunable by the user administrator as they once were.
I also find that navigating the Samsara system is not intuitive. I have shared this with examples over the past few years, but have seen no improvement.
Working with contract renewal and billing is more difficult than it should be.

Samsara for the win

I love Samsara! I tell everyone about how much we like Samsara. Reporting, cameras, alerts and user friendly are all perfect.

Pros

Samsara is easy to work with. Camera downloads very important, the ease of downloads makes investing an incident so quick. Anytime help has been needed they are on it.

Cons

Videos for compliance would be helpful for drivers. Also being able to create workorders for maintenance would complete the program.

Samsara helps drivers to be safe on the road.

Samsara cameras have been an effective means to help our drivers drive safely and protect them in case of accidents and road incidents. If someone calls to complain about a driver, we can look at the video and determine what happened and make a better judgement on the incident. The impersonal reminder to slow down or buckle your seatbelt are good enhancements to our safety program.

Pros

Customer Service is the best. Responsive and prompt. They work hard to find solutions to and problems.

Cons

Shipping price on things from the store is too high.

Samsara has been great to work with!

It's been overall a positive experience. Holding our drivers accountable and protecting us from bad situations they may come up against

Samsara has been decent to work with and the overall service has been great for our fleet. The dash cam safety scoring has been great for holding our driver's accountable and giving them extra incentive to keep it safe. Also it has protected our company from potentially bad situation via the driver's behavior or other vehicles on the road they may be dealing with.

Cons

Sometimes the cameras pick up on events that aren't actually happening (example: Mobile Usage) Driver's will be drinking coffee and it will pick it up as mobile usage

Compliance Coordinator

Very positive. A few years ago, reliability or durability of the gateways and cameras could be an issue, but replacements were easy to acquire.
We ONLY use forward facing cameras and NO audio, yet the ability to coach and hold people accountable in the proper way is not an issue. Drivers don't feel spied on but do recognize their responsibility to represent themselves and the Company well.

Pros

The ability to track and pull video for driver vindication vs complaints, etc. Does away with the aggravation of not being able to definitively determine what took place. (Crash, Complaint or Commendation)

Cons

The billing is something of a maze to follow.

Great product and great customer service.

Ease of product. The alerts are pretty accurate. Easy installation of hardware.

Cons

Speed limit alerts are not consistence. I know Google maps is used for speed limits, so you are locked into an inadequate system.

Happy Camper

Overall, I am very happy with Samsara. I learn something new with it everyday.

Pros

Consolidated invoicing!!!! Also love the ability to see my vehicles at all times and reports! I monitor vehicles and equipment for 3 different companies.

Cons

Google maps are not updated often enough. Receive speeding alerts when posted speed limit is higher than what Samsara shows.

You won't need another telematics system

It has been great. Compared to older telematics having cameras showing behaviors has made all the difference.

Pros

Aside from the great system and features, this product has always proven to show drivers it is reliable and accurate.

Cons

It is not what I don't like about Samsara as much as it is I need to understand more about transfer old gateways that used to be assigned in old trucks into new trucks

Best in class

This is the third tracking, dispatch, system i have worked with and by far the best. We absolutely love the video that is available on demand if we have an issue.

Pros

Ease of use, and mobile functionality. I can be anywhere and view current location and share location all from my phone.

Cons

There can be the odd bug in the system where it throws out check code for trucks when there is actually nothing wrong.

Samsara is the best ELD and dash camera system available.

Excellent - I've used Samsara with three different trucking companies. It is the best.

Pros

Very efficient ELD system, and the same for Dash Cameras. By far, the best I've used after using several ELD systems. Very user friendly. I would recommend it to anyone needing a good ELD system.

Cons

Nothing bad to say. It is a very good system. The multi-year contract could be reduced, but I understand why they use that type of contract.

Great Experience!

Our rep [sensitive content hidden] has been very helpful and knowledgeable. Samsara is an extremely useful tool to use when you have a large amount of drivers to keep track of.

Pros

I like how easy it was for me to learn how to use. It helps us to keep track of how our drivers are doing out on the road. The AI is pretty accurate for the most part and I like how you can give feedback if the alert was incorrect. The cameras are also very high quality and good to have if there's ever an accident.

Cons

Right now I'm having an issue with the camera IDs that I'm working to resolve. It's not picking up on some people who have been here for a long time and have 100% on their camera training. When it does work correctly, it's very helpful to automatically assign drivers.

Horrible cancellation policies and practices

I own a small service and repair company where I sought out a vehicle tracking service back in 2021 to keep an eye on 3 service vans, a couple of trailers and a lift. I saw good reviews online and chose Samsara. The services they provided was a bit overkill for my small operation, and was quite pricey, but I stuck with them. In February of 2024, I started winding down my business in preparation for retirement, and I contacted Samsara and told them by phone I was closing my business and wanted to discontinue my service. They instructed me to round up all my devices and they would send me instructions to return them. I un-installed all of the trackers from my vehicles and boxed them up for return. When I called Samsara back for return instructions, they informed me I still had 6 more months on my "Contract". They also told me they no longer needed the equipment back. I was very frustrated with this situation, but went ahead and let them draft the next 6 months of payments on my credit card which they have on file (Bad mistake to give them credit card authorization). When they continued charging my charge card in August, September and beyond, I called again to stop this. They told me I had my account on "Auto-renew" and it renewed in July. Now they offered a "Settlement" where they wanted me to pay over $2,600 if I wanted to cancel the service. They have and outrageous system of "ticket requests" that expire quickly, overseas call center "Billing issues" staff and what appears to me to be a very intentional smoke and mirrors system of generating massive income from the unethical and unfair business practices of dodging cancellation requests. I have not used their tracking service for nearly a year now, and I am still fighting to stop them from drafting my credit card. If you are a small business, be very wary of this company!!!

They use very deceptive contract practices. The "overseas call center" feel billing dispute system is horrible if you are a customer.

Great Product

Pros

So far we have found all aspects of Samsara to be great. I have been able to make our Truck Drivers safer by utilizing the safety score feature and adding it to our bonus structure.

Cons

I have had to update a lot of area on our maps for Speed as we are very rural and some area did not have any speed limits associated which caused my drivers to have speeding violations when they were not speeding.

Samsara or Bust

I have been using it the past 5 years and it has been a great resource for me to learn and use.

Pros

It is a great software for tracking and elogs. I use it all week and all day from checking hours and routes. I am able to use it on my pc and phone and aslo has a app based product. It is very useful in the trucking industry. I have used other programs in the past but this one is all inclusive.

I dislike that when I try to zoom into the maps the exit number doesn't become any more visible.

A few problems, but a good option compared to others!

Overall, Samsara's best function is the trackability of assets and the ELD for our drivers. Driver logs are easy and user friendly for both drivers and safety admin and other personnel.

Pros

Samsara devices are easy to install, making tracking of equipment a breeze! Also, many, many reports are available for any time frame and groups!

Cons

Samsara behavior detection is often off and inaccurate. It would be nice if the external camara could detect the speed limit outside of the built-in google map speed limits. Samsara flags speeding on side roads, overpasses and other streets drivers aren't even on. It just isn't real time so there is a lot of investigating that has to be done to ensure your drivers are not speeding.

Good system. Customer service could use an upgrade.

It has been ok. They are not bad, but they are not excellent. They push you off to different departments, especially when renewals are due. When you call to ask for someone to help you with your account they just tell you where to look online for the details. Sometimes it would be just nice to talk to a person that knows what they are talking about.

Pros

It was a more established company at the time that we signed up. It was a Canadian contact at the time.
So far, after lengthy phone calls, we can usually source the problem with any discrepancies.

Cons

The inability to switch a new run to noon to noon or midnight to midnight without it switching all of the past logs. Sometimes our tours run differently and would work best on the other option than what the past tour ran on.
I don't like their renewal process and the lack of someone specifically looking after my account I keep getting sent to one department after another.

Top Quality System

Outstanding from the start to now. It was an easy install and setup. The support team was there with no tier levels. We spoke directly to an agent who could answer out question then.

Pros

Easy to Setup - Customer Service is knowledgeable and Reliable - The fault code notifications are valuable for safety purposes giving knowledge about our Fleet Repairs Needed.

Cons

That the price to car owners on a personal level isn't really feasible at this time. If and when it is I would love to do sales for this product. lol

Could not recommend more!

We have all Samsara cameras

We have had cameras for several years and have liked them. We have a different company for the ELD and we are very happy with the ELD's but when we tried the cameras, they were not as good as Samara cameras as far as dependability, tracking and views. We converted all of our buses to Samsara cameras getting away from the others.

Pros

Installation of cameras was fairly easy, replacement was very easy. Tracking and updating pictures is better than our last vendor.

Cons

I would like to talk to someone when there is a problem instead of being directed to a library of how-to videos that take time and may or may not address the problem or question I am having.

Disgruntled customer !!!HELP!!!

The sales team.were amazing and told us everything we wanted to hear. The client support phone staff try there best but have a difficult time understanding the issues and are quick to get you off the phone by saying they will send a link to solve the issue. Rarely do I receive a link and whn I do, it has nothing to do with issue.
The issues we are having are minor.to fix wirh the proper climet support staff. We still haven't found anyone that's willing to help since May 2024m

Pros

We switched our entire fleet from Motive to Samsara. Absolutely disappointed in the client support.I am aiming to switch back to Motive.
I've tested out four ELD platforms in the past seven years. Samsara is by far the worst platform so far when it comes to client support.
I can't figure out how anyone could give this platform more than one star.

Cons

Zero client support. I've been attempting to resolve several issues for over six months and have been ghosted by every support staff member.
I need.to speak to a manager immediately if Samsara wants to salvage our relationship

Power BI API Praise

My experience has been very positive, especially with customer service. I’ve always had every question answered.

Hj Poist review of samsara more then you think

It is overall one the best out there its easy for the drivers and office staff to use. I have been able to create things with in samsara that make my life easy example I have really used the document side of things a lot more and made new forms to save us money. so no it is not just a dash cam company customer service has also always been top notch as well.

Samsara review 12/17/2024

Overall the experience has been very good. However, I would suggest a report be created that tells when a driver has unplugged a vehicle gateway, when it is plugged back in and how many miles were driven during the period of time the vehicle gateway is unplugged. This would be a major and helpful resource to carriers. As there are drivers that will do just about anything to get around the ELD.

Pros

We like that it is an easier system to work with and provides tons of tools.

Cons

The feature we like least is the Reports. Reports need to be easier with data that makes sense. Who cares what percentage of time a driver used personal conveyance for, tell what time it started and where, tell me what time it ended/where. Reports are quite convoluted and often do not make sense.

Experience Review

Its been good, like the integration, customer service is bad as is hard to talk to a live person. Also the alerts don't work well, some times they don't alert when they are suppose to be trigger, and the ELD log book sometimes disconnects and the driver has to refresh to get signal so the status gets updated. The bad thing about this is that while disconnected it does not shows correct hours for carrier, alerts don't get trigger, and when stopped by DOT driver has to refresh quick because the ELD will be stock on the last status, but DIT officers don't like drivers on the phone prior of Inspections. We got a violation once from a dot office because the status was not updated. But I will still keep the service bc it helps integration with brokers and helps on tracking regardless, but needs improvement

Absolutely fantastic. Support has been so much better as the company has evolved into a better app and online experience.

Instant video of accidents and issues. We are able to get quick footage in the event of a major accident.

My only issue is not being able to assign drivers to there vehicle. We typically make many changes in that area as a school district.

A Very Thorough System

So far I have had a great time with working with Samsara. They helped me with a very large transition for my company and have always been able to provide support and equipment for all my needs. Their telematics system has done wonders for organizing a lot of data for our company, including helping keep us on the ball with our drivers.

Pros

The ease of use, good interface, helpful and quick support, consistent updates, a plethora of efficient equipment. Lots of features in how to keep track of company analytics. Speedy delivery.

Cons

Some slow server speeds at certain times, a few oddities when using the system, some unintuitive or non-detailed information in certain reports. It can also get quite expensive, especially their shipping rates.

MADE THE SWITCH

I started out with the Samsara product on half of my equipment and another company on the other half. As soon as the contract was up on the other company I switched all of my equipment to Samsara for a superior product.

Pros

I really like the GPS tracking and the ease of downloading videos. I was using another system and GPS tracking was a guess at best and the camera system shut off at the point I needed it most.

Cons

The main issue that I have with Samsara is trying to get ahold of anyone for tech support or billing questions,

Robust, Customizable, Affordable and Developer Friendly ELD and Telematics

I have worked on Samsara while managing Safety and Tracking for multiple companies. The safety, tracking features and historical data they offer and speed for application is unmatchable.
We developed an inhouse application for our safety offerings and their developer freindly documentation helped a lot.

Pros

1. Simplified and robust documentation on each and every feature.
2. Also, the compliance and rules they follow and explain is also very helpful for small companies where safety manager is not available.
3. Customizable Alerts, Document Management Tools, Customizable Mobile app
4. Developer Friendly with webhook support.

Cons

I have not some to any such shortcomings so far. But sometimes, notification emails or alerts are not triggered on time.

Great product and easy to use.

Overall, Samsara is a great product that allows us to know the state of our fleet and where it is nicely.

The admin side of the system is very easy to use. I can find assets and check how they are doing easily.

Cons

Camera system is not part of all admin rights and only being able to be assigned rights to only one permission level for the entire company.

Samsara Review

I use Samsara daily! I track the fleet, check on DVIR's, dash cam footage, fuel & def gages. I coach through harsh events that come through in the safety inbox.

Pros

I love the video library and dash cams. Being able to edit and download dash cam footage is great. That feature has helped us in many ways! It has helped us in incidents such as accidents, tracking down the fleet and coaching drivers on harsh events. I love the safety reports! I love that we are able to create my own reports in Samsara. Samsara has helped us save money and that is awesome!

Cons

The videos from the dash cam footage takes a while to download. Overall, Samsara is great!

Samsara renewal is a joke

They are well above price of their competitors. Verizon's Connect is $5 per device per month cheaper and their customer service is unparalleled. They are quick to get your money and then ghost customers that have been loyal for over 3 years. They had so much going for them. But they have a 1.2 out of 5 rating on BBB and their google reviews are in the tank. They respond with a generic response but don't actually do anything.

Pros

The equipment works and we were able to track the vehicles. The ai feature works great.

Cons

The customer service. [sensitive content hidden] will not answer your messages or phone calls. We were suppose to do a renewal and he is absent. There is a bottleneck for the renewal where you can only deal with him. His management team doesn't intervene. You are left at his disposal. 3 weeks in the process of renewal with 7 systems failing. You can't buy replacements because you have to be in contract.

Run to ANY Other Company ASAP This is the worst company with NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

This is THE WORST company I have ever worked with & I have been in business for over 25 years. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICES at all. There is a call center that says they are customer service but are unable to help you. They are really a call center that forwards an email to someone else who says they will get back to you in 1 - 3 business days. I have had 2 issues in the last 11 months and the first one took 6 months and many many email for me to get my refund & this on going one has been since April. It seems that somehow I started with 1 contract & 8 units but somewhere along the way it got changed to 12 units and 2 contracts. I have only ever had 8 units. I found out during an audit of the account and have been trying to get anyone from their company on the phone since April to help me fix the account and to date there is no one!
Oh they do keep sending me follow up emails after about every 3rd I send them but they keep just saying to pay for all 12 units and have since suspended my account. It has been about a month now since they suspended the account and still no one will help me. I would 100 % never use this company again and suggest you do the same. They are only looking to make a set it and forget it system to suck in all your money and are completely no interested in dealing with me as a customer.
They need to do better!

Pros

This is great for in the minute tracking. Anything else is a pain in the fanny.

Cons

I find it very frustrating when I have to correct someone's log because once they logged off someone else jumped in their truck and it logged the original person back on. It counts as driving time and will not allow you to make changes so it saves a violation. The reports are impossible to obtain at one time. Noting is really user friendly. You have to have the manual with you when ever you need to do any thing or your lost.

Mostly a great product with limited support.

Cons

Support is terrible. Access to support is the worst. Then when/if you get through, the first person you talk to can only read the screen/error. No depth of knowledge.
Why cant drivers see the picture from their own devices?
When running a split clock, drivers cannot view upcoming rollover hours easily. I end up sending screen shots to the drivers so they can plan.

Douglas Lumber Samsara Review

Overall, this application is hands down the best vehicle tracking system we've ever used here.

Pros

Overall we love how easy this is to use. The ability to track vehicles accurately is huge for us at Douglas Lumber. Vehicle Diagnostics is also a huge help and makes scheduling service for our fleet easy!

Cons

The way the tracking system shows times. Trying to figure out the point in time a vehicle was near a certain address on its route is a little less cut and dry than other aspects of the tracking system.
