# RFF

Canonical: https://www.softwareadvice.com.au/software/552043/RFF

> RFF is a Windows endpoint deployment tool designed to manage software distribution, script execution, and job scheduling across large numbers of Windows endpoints. It is used by IT administrators and system administrators to deploy software packages, run PowerShell scripts, and maintain endpoint inventories efficiently.

The platform supports both agent-based and agentless operation. In agent-based mode, communication occurs over outbound port 443, removing the need for inbound firewall rules or VPN connections. Software packages are uploaded to a content delivery network and cached at edge locations near endpoints, enabling parallel downloads instead of sequential transfers from a central repository. RFF allows deployments to run in different execution contexts, such as SYSTEM, the current logged-in user, or under specified credentials. Dynamic grouping features automatically adjust group membership based on criteria such as installed software or operating system version. Staggered deployment options and human-readable scheduling are also included. A browser-based remote desktop feature provides attended control of managed machines, including access to the Windows login screen when no user is signed in.

The platform incorporates several security measures, including encrypted credential storage with key-wrapping certificates, fail-closed protection to prevent operation if encryption is unavailable, and tenant isolation at the database query level. It maintains a full audit trail of privileged actions and does not require inbound network connections or SMB/RPC protocols in agent mode. Daily vulnerability scans check endpoint inventories against databases such as NVD and CISA KEV. Role-based access control is available with predefined roles for administrators, operators, and viewers. Additional features include webhook notifications for deployment status updates and support for PowerShell scripts, MSI installers, EXE files, and custom executables.
