# Scale to Size

> Autodesk® Fusion®'s built-in Scale command asks for a unitless factor. But you almost always want a target size — "make this 50 mm tall" or "scale this assembly to 18 inches across." Scale to Size lets you type the exact final dimension on the axis you choose, in millimeters or inches, and computes the factor for you. It works in both Direct and Parametric design modes.

Key features

• Exact target dimensions — pick X, Y, or Z, type the size, click OK. The factor is computed from the current bounding-box span on that axis.

• Proportional or single-axis — keep the shape's aspect ratio (the default), or untick Proportional to scale only the chosen axis and leave the other two unchanged — ideal for "make this 60 mm wide but keep the height."

• Per-body or world-origin pivot — pre-select bodies and each one scales around its own bounding-box center, growing or shrinking in place. With no pre-selection, every body in the design scales around the world origin, with optional automatic grounding.

• Live size readout — the X / Y / Z dimensions of your selection are shown in the dialog and update as you change the selection or unit.

• Smart target size — pre-filled with the current value of the chosen axis and refreshed live as you switch axis, unit, or selection. A 5% nudge is one keystroke, not a number to type from scratch.

• Millimeters or inches — side-by-side toggle, mm by default.

• Optional auto-ground and XY-center — drop the result so its lowest point sits on Z = 0, and recenter it on the world origin. On by default for whole-design scales, off for manual selections, always overrideable.

• Native progress dialog — large scales show a Fusion progress dialog after about two seconds; fast scales finish silently. Every scale is undo-able.

Works on solid bodies

Scale to Size operates on solid (BRep) bodies. To scale an imported mesh (for example an STL), convert it to a solid first with Fusion's Mesh → Convert Mesh, then scale as normal.
